Making Money

What are some negative thoughts around making money

What are some Need-to-be's?
Need to be smart and not smart enough?
Need to take advantage of other people?
Need to work harder and I'm feeling stress now?
Need to have the CERTS but got no time?

What are some I CANT's
Can't do the work that pays higher rates
Can't get the contracts that pay the best rates
Can't get the experience that pays the highest rate

What are some negatives around OTHERS
Others don't seem to know I exist
Others are better than me
Others are more confident

What some other negative BELIEFS you have around money and what areas does that effect in terms of the car you drive? the house you live in? the school your children will attend? HOW ELSE might it be important to eliminate NEGATIVE thoughts around MONEY to improve your financial position?

CERTS ARE ASSETS

Did I mention that CERTS CAN be TREATED as an ASSET

Yes I did...

BUT HOW can you TELL you are MAXIMISING your ROI on EACH cert.

LOOK around the room and stop
and hold your gaze on the first "PERSON of INFLUENCE" AND ask yourself

How are you COMMUNICATING
your UNIQUE application of your CERT so that it raises this persons curiosity to the point they WANT to hear about YOU some more.

How are you making it EASY for this "person of influence"
to BUY you.. to ACCESS your Benefit... AND.. Advantage.. to be gained from your unique application of each CERT... that makes you MORE valuable to this person than just the piece of paper the cert is written on.

How can you tell this person UNDERSTANDS the true UNIQUENESS of your PROPOSITION to THEIR issue NOW.

OR is maximising the return on each investment not important to you?

BE the Solution

Jump to the SOLUTION Side and STAY there.

Many believe that SIMPLY BRINGING up PROBLEMS is BEING on the solution side. NOT SO that makes them whingers and whiners and puts them on the PROBLEM side EVEN when the problem is real.

Others are put on the problem side because the problem they 'perceive' is a problem ONLY to them.

LANDING IN the problem BUCKET as a 'complainer' in this climate will cost you your job.

THERE IS a wrong way and a RIGHT way to go about IDENTIFYING a REAL problem , PITCHING and DELIVERING a workable solution for it, so it lands you directly in with the most VALUED... in the solution bucket.

Not Getting Any Younger

Hear yourself or a colleague saying.. "I've been doing the same job... I am very good at it... I love it BUT... "
  • My family is growing
  • My responsibilities are increasing
  • My expenses are ballooning
  • My debt is increasingly a burden
  • My rate if anything is going backwards

HOW do I get a bigger RETURN on my TIME doing what I LOVE.. BECAUSE I'm NOT getting any younger

Then is perhaps NOW the time to position yourself intelligently
as a (highly paid) Expert in the field you love.

The (highly paid) Expert Market

I was listening to Brendon Burchard... founder of Experts Academy, on "Becoming a Highly-Paid Expert" and

I like Brendon's Definition of an expert BEING
a Credible Authority who DEFINES:
  • WHAT to pay attention to,
  • What things MEAN,
  • HOW things work,
  • How things MIGHT turn out

Have a Listen and I was wondering
how YOU would like to STRIP AWAY all the "generalities" around
  • 4 areas of expertise you must master at work (or risk disaster)
  • 8 things experts DO (this is why they're paid so much)
  • 11 ways to position yourself as an expert
  • How experts get paid millions of dollars for their information
and strip that view down even FURTHER to what is SPECIFIC to YOU the IT Practitioner...

and most IMPORTANTLY how to
APPLY that using aspects of the Five Way Five Area STRATEGY around positioning yourself intelligently as a highly paid expert CUSTOMISED for the Helpdesk Support, Deployment and Security market.

Do you want to SELL OR do you want to ...

Learn HOW to HELP the interviewer BUY (you)?

The biggest mistake most (not all) technically oriented people make is their MINDSET.

The believe (have SET in THEIR mind) that they have to SELL when that is NOT true... Its a MISTAKEN belief. Its in fact a mistake in their thinking.

The reality is you CANNOT sell a person anything UNLESS the person WANTS to BUY what you have to offer.

You can try and sell the interviewer on your MAINFRAME software skills all you like...

AND I guarantee you it will be without success when the INTERVIEWER'S is looking to BUY a solution according to a very specific ISSUE BRIEF.

So you can learn SALES skills that try to 'sell', 'push', 'convince', 'persuade', 'convince', 'trick' interviewer into needing your mainframe software skills...

OR
you can learn how to HELP the INTERVIEWER BUY according to their ISSUE brief that you may NOT be a solution for.

HELPING an interviewer BUY feels FAR more NATURAL and is much more satisfying BECAUSE it requires you to POSITION yourself around THEIR situation rather than having to KNOCK yourself out pushing, convincing, persuading, tricking into something they DON'T want.

One of them is to learn to day trade.

Fortunately there is a way to avoid the pitfall of being a lone trader.

The Edge

So if getting a higher rate is about getting the edge how do you go about getting the edge right now? or is that not important in getting a higher rate?

Get Assistance

...and ELIMINATE beliefs and conditioning around MONEY, RATE, WORTH. The Lefkoe Method will assist you to eliminate belief and conditioning around securing a higher rate.

The Lefkoe Method will help you eliminate your negative emotions around rate for good because

it will assist you to make a distinction between the original real cause of the emotion and the events that just happened to be occurring at the time.

"HOW does making mistakes, being criticized, not meeting expectations, being rejected, and a host of other non-scary situations get conditioned to produce anxiety around asking for more?"

I like how Morty put it
"Its like reacting to an imaginary FIST everytime an icecream gets handed to us"

I'm curious. WHAT imaginary FIST is being reacted to everytime an icecream gets handed to you?" WHAT beliefs and conditioning are being reacted to whenever its about MONEY, RATE, your WORTH?

when working it didn't really matter how well I did my job

Here is something I often hear muttered that I know more people than just you and your colleague alone can relate to

when working it didn't really matter how well I did my job because the company basically weren't going to pay me more than they could afford to. It's difficult to keep motivated, at least in relation to your money, if you know that you aren't going to benefit too much from your increased experience and ability to do your job.

This is something I know you can relate to.... How do I know?

I know that I know because many who read this blogg are in the process of breaking out.. not tolerating having the joy of their 'creative self' suppressed any longer.

But like you are wondering how.

What did you do at the time?

Did you consider becoming a highly paid expert in your field?

Did you consider starting on your own monetised blogg like this lady?

What other viable ways of earning multiple income streams have you found besides professional blogging in IT?

Importance of Rate

It is no coincidence that IT Contractors need to go for the highest possible rate for every hour they spend because they trade in life's seconds... seconds they can never get back... so its very understandable they would ask for the highest possible rate especially if their life's precious seconds are valued at all.

Consider along with this that they only have a maximim of 24 hours each day to give toward that.

If you were to deduct (from that 24 hours) the time needed for sleep, time needed to keep up with change in their area of expertise, networking, maintaining their books, updating resumes, going on interviews and you soon see that dwindle considerably. It makes absolute sense that they can make sure every hour on the job counts.

It is also fair enough that the pay scale for the IT industry is a little higher than other expense sided service providers since research aimed at management indicates that business consistantly and persistantly looks to technology for every opportunity to directly improve their bottom line. Business would prefer to use technology where it does more, does it faster, does it with more precision, does it longer, without the high maintenance that can come with the human alternative.

Business is willing to share in that improvement with those willing to deliver it to them.

But lets look at the other side of the coin. Most of us have met contractors who are there for the gain but not for helping the business overcome its pain. They appear to have only one thing on their mind. The highest rate possible. However realistically this is not sustainable without the contractor giving something in return through shifting their expertise and innovatively applying that to areas of greatest demand. Consider perhaps, the possibility, that demanding the highest possible rate without offering some real and ongoing benefit and advantage does not help the people who are trying to represent you, namely your agent. Agents will endeavor to get you the best possible rate, the best possible deal but can only do this with people who are willing to work with them.

So to what extent is finding more benefit and advantage for the end client, that makes it easier for the agent to best place you, at the best possible rate, (dare I say) that gives you the edge... important to you as a contractor?
